Disseminating the appeal of Furoshiki during the Tokyo 2020 Games

During the period of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, between July and September 2021, displays of Furoshiki and workshops on how to use them to wrap items were held, disseminating the appeal of Furoshiki overseas.

1. “Japan Culture Stadium” in the Olympic/Paralympic Village Plaza

A Furoshiki experience corner was set up within a space used to introduce Japanese traditional culture and performing arts to the athletes and other personnel connected with the Games. While taking thorough precautions against disease transmission, the appeal of Furoshiki was communicated to participants, who were given the opportunity to enjoy them.

2.“Traditional Culture Corner” in the Tokyo Media Center

Various ways of using Furoshiki to wrap items were on display and a concept video was shown within a corner used to introduce Japanese traditional culture and performing arts arts to foreign reporters and media personnel, disseminating the appeal Furoshiki and the Japanese wisdom which it shows.
